Fellow pilgrims, greetings from your friend Arthur in Oregon.

How difficult is it to eliminate pornography from your mind and your spirit? I would like to continue the analogy of my bout with pneumonia.

As I reported, I developed a cough after I fell and injured my rib cage on the left side.  In the beginning I thought all I needed to do was to wait three or four weeks for the rib pain to go away.  However, I developed the cough and became quite nauseated and vomited some of the contents into my lungs.  Shortly, the material in my lower lung sacs began to react and decrease my oxygen exchange capacity.  My cough intensified resulting in bringing up blood.

At that point I knew what I was developing was very serious and had the potential to kill me.  We went to the physician who immediately hospitalized me and started an antibiotic IV, oxygen, and complete rest was required.  After three days of intensive treatment the death process was turned around and I was released on the fourth day.  I am now at home with oxygen, physical therapy, antibiotics, and rest,  waiting for  and expecting a complete recovery.

So you see, what strong intervention was needed to turn the situation around.  I would not have survived without their help.

Hello my friends,

For those of you who have been following my weekly messages or for you who are just starting I have an analogy to present.

I recently came down with pneumonia.  It was my first bout with this.  I was surprised because I didn’t realize what I had until it began to take over my body.  I developed a fever, lost my energy, lost my focus.  The physician examined me and diagnosed what I had.  We can treat you but it will take time. You must follow certain procedures to help yourself. This will not go away by itself.  It needs to be forcefully treated.

What ...

Dear friends,

As I read further and learn more about the evil effects of pornography the more I become convinced we are up against  an enemy whose power over us is unmanageable.

You cannot overcome lust by/or within yourself.  God knows that and He has provided a way of escape.  It is not an “operation bootstrap” however.

Paul speaks to this in Colossians 2:20:

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month.

Psalm 43 is a prayer to God in time of trouble:

“Vindicate me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation; oh, deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man!”

We have been asking God to raise up laborers. Keep praying this wherever you are, for your city and for your country. God is answering.

In our previous post we saw how the brain establishes habits.  Neuropathways are formed by repetition.  Over time a habit can turn into an addiction.

Pornography, we have seen, has the power to create neuropathways in the brain.  Once established, they are very difficult to change.  For example:  a pornographic image seen only once may remain in the brain for years.  Fortunately, the brain is plastic and can be changed.

In our last message we said it was time to turn the spotlight on pornography.

We need to know how destructive it is to relationships.

It has become the new drug and is dangerously addictive. Those who study the human brain tell us that we develop neuron pathways that control our behavior:  for example, porn-viewing sets new neuron pathways which become the control pathway.  The brain in its function is reprogrammed and the neuron pathways become dominant.

How does porn gain access to your thinking and from there to your “inner man”?

It is through your eyes.  The eye is the principal avenue to control our thinking and understanding or simply “what we know”.

How does porn gain access?  It is through a choice we make to let its message in through our eyes and repeated exposures establish a habit which is not far from addiction.

Jesus gave some critica...

Pornography and the sin of lust are at the root of human trafficking, especially sex trafficking.  In this series Arthur begins to tackle the problem of being held in bondage by porn.

Pornography is destroying marriages, families, friendships and lives around the world.  But it doesn’t need to be a destroyer.  It can be overcome.  While it has taken over the lives of men and women, with prayer and resources it can also be banished from those same lives.

Please join Arthur in this series.  It may help you or someone you love find freedom from the chains of pornography.
